Are You Tired Of Having To Prove Yourself Over And Over Again In The Workplace?
Do you wonder why it is that you have to do so? Do you want to know what to do about it? Read on to learn more…
Not only do women find themselves having to prove themselves over and over again in the workplace, but we also have to do more to prove ourselves in the first place.
There is no question there is disparity between male and females on having to prove themselves over and over again in the workplace. Unlike our male counterparts, if we’ve achieved something it is often because we are seen as lucky not because we’ve earned it or are qualified for it. This is the reason behind having to prove yourself over and over again in the workplace.
Regardless of how unbelievably frustrating this is, we women need to face the facts.
I’m sorry to say, but having to prove yourself over and over again in the workplace is our reality ladies.
This is our playing field.
It doesn’t mean you have to like having to prove yourself over and over again in the workplace, but it is part of the job.
Having to prove myself over and over has happened to me so many times its hard to keep track. My favorite scenario is when I’m being underestimated by someone or a group I’m newly working with. It never fails; there is usually some male who decides to take it upon himself to “educate” me. You would think by just my mere presence being in the same room with these people, one would assume I had the experience enough to be there. If I had no experience, I wouldn’t be there. But no, it’s generally assumed I know nothing and it’s almost jaw-droppingly stupid of individuals to go there. And once they do, they certainly lose my respect.
I’ve also found if I’ve proved myself in one area, it isn’t enough, and then I have to prove myself in another area too. I found myself many times where it’s not enough I proved my competence, but then I had to prove I was physically fit to keep up too.
The bar would keep getting raised. I couldn’t seem to gain any ground.
You can somewhat understand having to prove yourself when you work with a new team, what you don’t expect is to have to prove yourself to your co-workers or boss on the same thing over and over.
I had a supervisor continually question my ability to handle difficult situations. It didn’t matter if he saw me in action and told me how impressed he was; the next situation to come up he would question my abilities again. Even though I never failed, in all the time I worked for him, he was never convinced.
You will have to prove your success wasn’t due to luck all this time, or that you didn’t have help, or somehow you had it easy.
I’m sorry this is true, but it is. As one who knows, living your life having to prove yourself over and over again for the same things can create a lot of extra stress.
It’s almost like Ground Hog day where you are reliving your first day of work over and over.
It’s a constant burden and stress to work as if you are trying out for the team each and every day.
